Elizabeth & Daniel’s Milwaukee engagement

Friends since birth, Elizabeth and Daniel’s paths have been crossing for many years, and tomorrow (July 21, 2012), they’ll come together for good.

“Our families grew up together, but as time passed we went our separate ways,” says Elizabeth. “We reunited at the Lake Beulah Boat Tie-Up [in East Troy].”

Both the to-be-weds are triathletes, so Daniel was inspired to pop the question while on a 50-mile bike ride near Lake Minnetonka in Minneapolis. “I began to turn around to go home when Dan asked for me to stop and go up a nearby hill,” Elizabeth explains. “When I asked him why, he responded, ‘’Cause I want to ask you something.’ I replied, ‘I bet you do.’”

Last autumn, the couple nodded to their favorite mode of transportation during their engagement photo shoot with Kim Bednarski Anderson of KB Image Photography. This time, they stayed a little closer to home (Wauwatosa) and their wedding locale (Lake Country), riding vintage bikes around Milwaukee.

Tomorrow, these childhood friends will say “I do.” Lots of local vendors, including Imagen Events, Sazama’s and Midwest Sound are helping to throw a country-chic garden party at Elizabeth’s parents’ home on the beautiful Tamarack Lake. Why? “Because,” says the bride, “home is where the heart is.”

By the end of high school, Ellie Martin Cliffe was completely enamored of journalism, so she chose the most logical college major possible: anthropology. Disappointed by the minimal emphasis on writing and editing, she changed tracks and earned a comm degree from Carroll College. Ellie has since tackled many facets of the field including books, magazines and the Web at places like The Knot and Reader's Digest. She now works full time in book publishing, and is thrilled to get her wedding fix with WedInMilwaukee.com. When she isn’t wielding her (red) pen, Ellie can be found in the garden, at any concert that showcases a fiddle, playing pub trivia or in the kitchen. She and her husband live in Riverwest with their hedgehog, Guinness, and grapefruit tree, Sprout.
