Gwynne & Eric’s Milwaukee wedding

Beautiful (albeit scorching-hot) weather set the tone for Gwynne and Eric’s fun-filled celebration. And that certainly helped convey the feel they were going for when pulling together their wedding-day details — many of which were DIY.

“I chose venues and colors that reflected new and old…relaxed and energetic,” explains the bride. “There was a lot of contrast, but it worked. And to see our daughter as the flower girl just made it even more priceless.”

Though the day wasn’t without a few glitches (like being locked out of their house at the end of the night!), this Shorewood couple couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. “No matter what goes wrong, nobody will notice, so don’t sweat it,” Gwynne advises. “Go with it, and your event will be memorable no matter what.”

By the end of high school, Ellie Martin Cliffe was completely enamored of journalism, so she chose the most logical college major possible: anthropology. Disappointed by the minimal emphasis on writing and editing, she changed tracks and earned a comm degree from Carroll College. Ellie has since tackled many facets of the field including books, magazines and the Web at places like The Knot and Reader's Digest. She now works full time in book publishing, and is thrilled to get her wedding fix with WedInMilwaukee.com. When she isn’t wielding her (red) pen, Ellie can be found in the garden, at any concert that showcases a fiddle, playing pub trivia or in the kitchen. She and her husband live in Riverwest with their hedgehog, Guinness, and grapefruit tree, Sprout.
